Come up-valley with us, past vineyards and blue skies edged by tall mountain ranges on either side to the old-fashioned town of St Helena. Home of the Culinary Institute of America and a handful of notable restaurants, we have selected this small town for our newest food tour showcasing talent and creativity framed by wine.
We start at 10:20 for a brunch tasting at Clif Winery. At Clif we will hear the story not only of how the winery started, but how the Clif Bar originated. This is no ordinary winery! It boasts of a bright green, organic food truck, a killer espresso machine and an array of organic jams, honeys and nuts – all from their very own organic farm. Sip smooth, beautiful whites and juicy reds to accompany your farm-fresh pairings. Spoiler Alert, you WILL want to join the Wine Club. We did!
Next we get a small but mighty taste of Goose and Gander’s famous mushroom soup paired with an award winning cocktail or wine that will blow your mind! When the weather is good, you might be permitted to chat with the pet Koi. They are the friendliest fish you will ever meet!
We then land at the original Model Bakery where Oprah Winfrey put their English Muffins on all foodie’s “must-try” list. If they are not too busy (often they are) we will get a tour of the kitchen where the building has two built in bread ovens from the 1800’s that they still use everyday!
Do you love to cook? Then you will appreciate Olivier’s, fashioned after the dreamy boutiques in France, you will sample beautiful olive oils, balsamic, caramels and custards. This is a perfect stop to purchase a gift or to add a little more gourmet pow to your kitchen.
We will enjoy our last pairing at Archetype. This beautiful restaurant was remodeled from architect owners Ann & Howard Backen who embrace all eating trends and restrictions. Whether you have a food allergy, sensitivity or are just trying to eat very healthy, you will especially appreciate Archetype’s farm-to-table style and accommodating tone. Everything is sourced responsibly and it is all very creative!
We will finale at Woodhouse Chocolates. Learn all about how owners of a Napa Valley winery decided to trade it all in for chocolate! Now in business for over ten years, this is a serious family affair. You can see baby Milo in a front pack helping his mom with the chocolate trays while we hear a very interesting demonstration about how chocolate happens from his Grandpa John.
